An exhilarating challenge
Presenting a new publishing house is always a thrilling challenge for every editorial project that comes to light reveals a world of ideas and concepts, and confronts us with decisions that are at times immediate and other times drawn-out and difficult.
A publishing house is driven by the passion of its founder and, more importantly, by the quest to find new writers and new stories in which readers can lose and find themselves.
Every book presents its own unique challenges and offers opportunities to communicate with many possible worlds.
Unveiling a new catalog is above all a chance to present writers and give resonance to their voices.
The writers selected by Sartorio Editore are those with the most innovative and eclectic voices on the international literary scene today. Many of the writers presented in this catalog, though being first-time novelists, have received prestigious prizes and critical acclaim.
Prime examples are the Nigerian writer, Helon Habila, who received the prestigious Caine Prize for African Writing, and such distinguished writers as Peter Ho Davies and Nicola Barker, who were named best among young British novelists by the magazine Granta (a title previously awarded to Martin Amis, Ian McEwan, Salman Rushdie and more recently Zadie Smith and Alan Warner).
These are just a few out of a vast catalog that caters even to the most refined reader. To preserve the quality of the works, the translations have been entrusted to established professionals, such as Massimo Bocchiola, one of the most prominent Italian translators, having translated authors such as Paul Auster, Irvine Welsh, Thomas Pynchon, Joseph o'Connor, Jonathan Safran Foer and another valued translator, Simona Vinci, with her noteworthy translation of Nicola Barker's book.
Our book designs also reflect the great care that goes into each editorial product: each cover has been illustrated - and specifically thought out - by the best Italian and foreign illustrators.
In 2005, Sartorio Editore will publish twelve works that include a novel set in multicultural London by Matthew d'Ancona, likened by the British press to Monica Ali, and an anthology entitled True Crime, a collection of works by some of the finest American crime writers, from Dashiell Hammett to Jim Thompson. Also ready for publication is a book portraying India as it has never before been seen.
And last but not least, our sincere love for poetry is reflected in the small but precious collection of poems by Gianni Clerici.
We are certain that the attention and care we give to each book will be appreciated and our hope is to give readers the opportunity to lose themselves in the wonderful world of literature.
